 KitchenAid, the brand that changed American kitchens forever with the introduction of its iconic stand mixer in 1919, its first home dishwasher in 1949 and first countertop appliances in color in 1955, is marking its 90th anniversary with a special edition stand mixer in Candy Apple Red. As a tribute to earlier models, the new 5-quart Artisan Series stand mixer will include a clear glass bowl in place of the stainless steel bowl currently provided, along with a 90th anniversary insignia on the mixer&#8217;s trim band.<span id="more-265"></span></p>
<p>&#8220;In addition to being the product that started it all for KitchenAid, the stand mixer remains the standard for everything we create,&#8221; notes Debbie O&#8217;Connor, senior manager of brand experience for KitchenAid. &#8220;We&#8217;ve never lost sight of the brand&#8217;s original guiding principle that everything carrying the KitchenAid name should make time spent in the kitchen more enjoyable.&#8221;</p>
<p>According to O&#8217;Connor, the KitchenAid brand name was born when wives of company executives were asked for help in naming the stand mixer and one replied, &#8220;I don&#8217;t care what you call it, I know it&#8217;s the best kitchen aid I&#8217;ve ever had.&#8221;</p>
<p>Also as part of its anniversary celebration, KitchenAid, through its publisher Publications International, Ltd., has released a new cookbook, KitchenAid Best Loved Recipes that includes many recipes for the stand mixer. These include everything from making bread dough with the mixer&#8217;s dough hook and homemade sausage with its optional sausage stuffer attachment to creating homemade lasagna noodles with an available pasta maker attachment set. Currently available at major retailers nationwide, the book was created to &#8220;give cooks the sense of accomplishment that comes from cooking from scratch at home,&#8221; said O&#8217;Connor.</p>
<p>The 90th anniversary Candy Apple Red Artisan Series stand mixer, available in the summer at a suggested retail price of $399, will feature a glass bowl with a pour spout and measurement markings. Stainless steel bowls will also be available to fit the new mixers. The Artisan Series stand mixer features a tilt-head design for easy bowl access and can accommodate eight to nine cups of flour. A 10-speed slide control ranges from a very slow stir to a fast whip. Its 67-point planetary mixing action spirals to 67 different touch points within the bowl for quick, complete mixing and the highest beater-to-bowl coverage in the industry. Every model includes three basic accessories: a flat beater for mixing batters, making pie dough or mashing potatoes; a dough hook for kneading everything from soft dough to stiff pizza dough; and a wire whip for beating egg whites and whipping cream.</p>
<p>By using any of more than a dozen optional attachments, the powerful motor of this kitchen workhorse can be tapped for everything from grinding grain and meat to kneading dough, slicing vegetables, rolling and cutting pasta, and even making ice cream. Optional attachments for the stand mixer include a slicer and shredder, fruit and vegetable strainer, food grinder, grain mill, citrus juicer and sausage stuffer; a pasta roller and a ravioli maker; several pasta cutters (including fettuccine, spaghetti, angel hair and wide noodle); and an ice cream maker. Prices on individual attachments range from a suggested retail price of $34.99 to $159.99. Special attachment sets, including a pasta kit and a gourmet specialty attachment pack, also are available.</p>

<p>Build an eco-friendly room from the ground up. 100-percent recycled floor tiles made of materials such as rich recycled leather, provide a fashionable and environmentally responsible alternative to chemically-treated rugs and manmade flooring.</p>
<p>Look for carpeting that is made from hemp, linen, wool or cotton, they come in a range of colors made from natural dyes. These biodegradable and chemical-free carpets often even use a rubber backing made from recycled windshield wipers or bicycle tires.</p>
<p>Wise Walls</p>
<p>Sherwin-Williams and other paint companies have recently introduced water-based paints to combat the environmental hazards often caused by chemical-laden paints. Alternative home wall coverings can also be made from earth-friendly materials, like hemp, linen, bamboo, cork and recycled paper.</p>

The Commercial-Style series includes high performance cooktops, dual-fuel ranges and powerful ventilation hoods, all designed to enable chef-worthy results at home, according to Debbie O’Connor, senior manager of brand experience for KitchenAid. <span id="more-122"></span><br />
“Our engineers and designers left no stone unturned as they developed this collection, researching and consulting with culinary experts, consumers and designers for invaluable feedback,” notes O’Connor.<br />
“These are the most powerful, best performing cooking appliances KitchenAid has ever offered.”</p>
<p>Premium features in the new collection include the exclusive 20,000 BTU Ultra Power™ Dual Flame Burner, the most powerful burner among leading manufacturers.   Its dual-flame stacked burner design<br />
with two flame levels is versatile enough to handle both the high temperatures needed for quick searing and the precise, low temperatures required for gentle simmering.  Additional burners found on all models include 15,000 BTU professional burners and 5,000 BTU simmer/melt burners that can be lowered to as little as 500 BTUs.</p>
<p>Cooks will also appreciate an Even-Heat™ True Convection System that combines a 1600-watt hidden oven element and unique bow-tie shaped baffle design to promote more even airflow.  This advanced<br />
system allows for consistent temperatures and even cooking whether using one or all three racks simultaneously in the oven.  AnEasyConvect™ Time and Temperature Conversion System automatically converts conventional times and temperatures to their convection equivalents.</p>
<p>Steam-assist technology offers yet another way to help cooks achieve professional results and the latest KitchenAid ranges offer the option of the brand’s exclusive convection plus steam-assist technology in a<br />
full size oven.  The easy to use Auto Steam function introduces steam into the oven at precise intervals and offers preprogrammed settings for everything from meats, fish and vegetables to desserts.</p>
<p>“The steam-assist function makes it even easier to achieve professional results at home by eliminating the need for manual steps like spritzing and basting for breads and roasts or having to use a water bath to<br />
evenly and gently cook cheesecakes and other custard-based desserts from center to edge,” notes O’Connor.  “Steam-assisted convection cooking produces finished dishes that retain more internal moisture while allowing for the browning, crisping and caramelizing that enhances the flavor, texture and appearance of many foods. “</p>
<p>A new Even-Heat™ Chrome Electric Griddle option features a chrome-infused steel surface with a 1320- watt element that provides even heat distribution at temperatures of 150ºF to 500ºF.  The durable chrome finish, similar to commercial restaurant quality material, is easy to clean, retains its bright appearance after use and creates less radiant heat to help keep the kitchen cooler.  An 18,000 BTU Even-Heat™ gas grill option combines a log burner, flame spreader and wave tray to provide powerful and even heat distribution.  Blue indicator lights on both the griddle and grill show when desired temperature is reached.</p>
<p>An optional, thoughtfully designed 22-inch backguard with a pivoting dual width shelf design offers one width for ingredient placement and one width to keep plates close at hand for serving and plate staging.<br />
A culinary ledge on both the ranges and cooktops provides additional usable space at the front of the cooktop to keep utensils or ingredients within reach.</p>
<p>All the cooktops feature low-profile grates with a new single grate design for easier lifting when cleaning.   Additional design features include die-cast metal knobs with precise alignment and a  commercial style handle with die-cast end caps.   A full-width oven door on the ranges has a large window for easier viewing of foods as they cook.  A glass-touch menu-driven LCD display provides an easy-to-use interface to guide users through all the cooking options.  Roller feet on the ranges help simplify installation, while a unique, toe-kick design adds a stylish element to help enhance kitchen décor.   An optional Architect® Series II handle kit is available for easy coordination of the new line with existing Architect® Series II appliances.<br />
 Scheduled to begin shipping to retailers in the second quarter, the new dual fuel ranges and cooktops will be offered in 30-, 36- and 48-inch configurations.  Options for a grill or griddle will be offered on 36- and 48-inch cooktops and 36-inch ranges.  The 48-inch model ranges will be available with a griddle option.<br />
All sizes of the new dual fuel ranges will offer the option of the KitchenAid brand’s exclusive dual fan convection with steam-assist technology and the 48-inch range will offer the industry’s only double oven range with steam-assist technology available in both ovens.    Suggested retail prices will range from $4,099 to $9,299 for the dual fuel ranges and from $2,099 to $3,399 for the cooktops.</p>
<p>New Commercial-Style ventilation offerings will include wall-mount canopy hoods available in 30-, 36-, 42- and 48-inch sizes, and island-mount canopy hoods available in 36-, 42- and 48-inch sizes.<br />
Commercial-Style wall and island canopies will feature powerful exhaust systems with 3-speed fan control ranging from 600-1200 CFM.   Select models will include two warming lamps to help keep<br />
cooked food warm while plating to serve.   Other features in the latest KitchenAid ventilation line include an all metal Pro Motor, halogen lighting for better visibility and heavy-duty dishwasher-safe filters.<br />

delivers the best results among leading competitors combined with the lowest sound levels in the<br />
industry.  The system utilizes pressure-optimizing wash arms that provide superior, concentrated wash<br />
performance as well as a variable speed motor that automatically adjusts power based on water conditions<br />
to maximize energy efficiency while reducing motor noise.</p>
<p>At just 41 dBA’s, there is a KitchenAid® Superba® Series EQ dishwasher in the lineup that is the<br />
industry’s quietest.  Featuring up to 13 unique points of sound dampening, these dishwashers eliminate<br />
noise from the motor and wash arms, while also blocking the path of noise through the dishwasher.  The<br />
array of sound deadening materials ranges from insulation blankets to door shields to contain operating<br />

The new Space Bag<sup>&reg;</sup> 3 Pocket Organizer&trade; helps solve both problems. The jumbo-sized 3 Pocket Organizer (39.25&#8243; x 47.75&#8243;), utilizes internal dividers that separate clothing and bedding inside the bag, yet all three pockets can be vacuum-sealed simultaneously. This is accomplished using an ordinary home vacuum cleaner to evacuate air through the patented one-way valve. Contents compressed this way take up less than half their normal space.</p>
<p>Pocket 1 (39.25&#8243; x 26&#8243;) is designed to store larger items like bedding and blankets, while Pockets 2 and 3 (each 19.25&#8243; x 21.25&#8243;) are sized for shirts, sweaters, jackets, and even stuffed toys. In addition there are two separate zippers, one on each side of the bag, for easy access to all 3 pockets.</p>
<p>Contents vacuum-sealed in the 3 Pocket Organizer are protected from dirt, bugs, water, mildew and odors. This allows the Space Bag organizer to be stored in places like the garage, attic, basement or under the bed, which frees up valuable closet and drawer space. Once compressed, the organizer conveniently folds in half to minimize storage space further.</p>
