Target(R) launches Dror(TM) for Target, an exclusive limited-edition collection that includes bedding, decorative accessories and stationery. Target is committed to enlisting fresh and new designers that create stylish yet affordable products for every room in the home. Dror Benshetrit, known for his multi-functional design, will bring his space-saving innovations to his new limited-edition collection for Target.

Dror for Target features a variety of products, including comforters, quilts, sheets and tapestries in elegant shades of brown, raspberry, plum and aqua with textures and patterns that are destined for mixing and matching. The decorative accessories selection includes removable wall decals, a clock, lamps, a side table and a nesting bookcase. Stationery items include file folders, sketchbook and mini composition books that are emblazoned with modern graphics. Many products collapse, fold away or serve multiple functions, making them ideal for city dwellers, college students or anyone looking to maximize space on a tight budget.

“Target continues to provide smart living storage solutions that add graphic appeal to the home,” said Gina Sprenger, senior vice president of Merchandising, Target. “The Dror for Target collection is another example of how Target delivers on our brand promise, Expect More. Pay Less.”

Benshetrit established his multidisciplinary design practice, Dror, in 2002 with the intent of “bringing poetry to function.” Benshetrit is known for creating functional objects that are enhanced by an artist’s eye. His designs are intuitive, easy to use and imbued with a lighthearted spirit that brings an element of joy to everyday tasks.

“I design all of my work to evoke emotion and inspire well being,” said Benshetrit. “Not only are these products wonderfully practical, they’re engineered to create a spark of energy in the lives of their owners.”

The collection ranges in price from $0.99 for mini composition books to $89.99 for the nesting bookshelf. Benshetrit’s goal in creating this collection for Target is to help guests organize more with less by emphasizing the concepts of utility and multi-function. The products work in a variety of room settings, from home offices to bedrooms, and many perform more than one task. Bookcases can be stacked and grouped for unlimited storage options, and each four-shelf unit can disassemble into a compact bundle for easy transport. And textured and patterned quilts and throw pillows are double-sided, providing twice the decorating power.

Stuck on You Wall Art is Fashion-Forward and Penny-Wise

When children want to decorate their rooms and personal space, the solutions are many times expensive, time-consuming and messy. In today’s world, very few parents are able to cope with that hassle, yet want to give their children the special room they can call their own. Stuck on You (www.stuckonyou.biz) is pleased to announce new, personalized Wall Art, aimed to celebrate children’s individuality from within their own room for a reasonable price.

The peel and stick art can be removed and rearranged from the walls, doors and furniture within a child’s bedroom without leaving a residue or causing wall or paint damage.

Children can pick out their own stylish design from three different sets: room art, wall art and door art. Each set includes a choice of 10 designs such as cars, construction, daisy, ponies, and fairy and glam dots. Retail prices for the three sets are as follows: door art - $49.95, wall art - $69.95, and room art - $89.95.

“Stuck on You celebrates children’s individuality and there is no better place for self-expression than in their bedroom,” notes Amy Lipton, Stuck on You’s US president. “Also keeping the parent’s interest in mind – our wall art is reasonably priced and will not cause any wall or paint damage when picked up and placed in a different spot. It was a natural and seamless transition into home decorating for our company.”

Noting their unique taste, children can brighten up walls, doors, wardrobes, mirrors and windows with Stuck on You Personalized Wall Art. All three sets serve different decorating purposes as room art contains sufficient stickers to decorate an entire room, wall art contains enough stickers to create a wall mural, and door art contains enough stickers to decorate a door, furniture, or other small space (study area, sleeping nook, bunk bed space). Children can have fun, be creative and move around the pieces around as the mood strikes. Keeping Stuck on You’s motto in mind, all wall art is personalized, so there is never a doubt whose space it is.

For more information about these items or other Stuck on You products, visit www.stuckonyou.biz or call 1-888-236-2800 for a free brochure or product sample.

The Modern Niche is an easy way to add architectural interest to your home. It can be easily installed by cutting a hole in your existing drywall and securing it with adhesive and screws. You can then finish the seams for a completely integrated look or surround it with a frame or molding to accent the niche. The niches may be grouped on an interior room wall or a staircase wall, providing a dramatic look to break up an otherwise bland space.

Tischlager, primarily a custom furniture producer, was founded by designer Susan Drescher to provide quality, creative, eco-friendly furniture solutions for the buyer looking for remarkable value. “Our quality is top drawer,” said Drescher, speaking of the level of craftsmanship and materials. “We use soft-close drawer slides and environmentally friendly materials and finishes with custom configurations and colors for the client.

The Tischlager “Modern Niche” was an idea conceived at 35,000 feet on a trip home from Europe. Tischlager owner Susan Drescher and her business partner first found inspiration for the Modern Niche at a gallery they were visiting in Amsterdam. “We visited a gallery that had shallow recesses on an entire wall in a stairwell,” said Drescher. “Each was filled with a portion of an image of the paintings on display. The look was dramatic and we loved it!”

At the same time, Drescher was trying to find a solution to add interest to a bland hallway at her home. “On the return flight we struggled with how to add this type of treatment to our hallway. I was dreading the idea of tearing up all the drywall and framing in the niche space,” said Drescher. She decided it could be best accomplished by designing an easy-to-install preformed insert. This would allow the average homeowner to do the installation from beginning to end and add a touch of unusual beauty to their home at an affordable price.

Installation is done in four easy steps; cut drywall, insert niche, glue and screw, then finish edges and paint. Complete step-by-step photos are shown on the Tischlager Website at http://www.tischlager.com/div_mn/htm/mn_howto.htm

All Tischlager furniture is made in the U.S. and carries a modern aesthetic look and is designed for functionality. Storage spaces are featured in most pieces and all are made with sustainability in mind. “I want to build durable furniture that won’t go to landfills,” said Drescher. “Modern, functional, creative and sustainable is my mantra.”

Frank Lloyd Wright once wrote that “The mirror is seen in nature in the surfaces of lakes, in the hollows of the mountains and in the pools deep in the shadow of the trees; in winding ribbons of the rivers that catch and give back the flying birds, clouds and blue sky… It may be as refreshing and beautifying in architecture, if architecturally used.”

Because mirrors have a significant ability to accentuate the design of a room they are viewed by many interior designers and architects like Wright, as tremendous designing “tools.” And, in this era of shrinking spaces and shrinking budgets, use of mirrors is becoming more important.

Mirrors can make the room appear bigger than it is, add light to a dark area of a room, introduce another wall color from across the room, or even extend a beautiful view.

Mirrors also play a vital role in Feng Shui. It is believed by Feng Shui practitioners that a well-placed mirror can dramatically alter or redirect the energy in a room to make it more beneficial for the inhabitants.

Throughout history, mirrors have been a key aspect of human architecture, art and practicality. The Chinese may have been the first to create bronze mirrors in 2000 BC. But every culture since then, including Mesopotamia, Egypt and Rome, have used and coveted mirrors.

In ancient times, only the wealthy and entitled few owned mirrors, today, mirrors are found in almost every home and business, and choices in mirrors have grown exponentially.

Fine Art Services, at the San Francisco Design Center (www.fineartservices.net), has been designing and installing custom mirrors, primarily in fine homes in the Bay area for over 30 years. According to Fine Art Services owner, Paul Robert Porambo, “If one is trying to enhance the feel of light and space, try a mirror before considering costly and time consuming renovations. Mirrors versatility is also why they are so popular with many of our interior designers.”

A mirror can have a beveled edge or a “V” groove within the body of the glass to provide more elegance to the design by adding refracting angles of light.

Mirror glass can also be antiqued, or etched with patterns to add a period feel for an intimate projection of light. Custom frames, from simple contemporary designs to gold gilded or antiqued period frames, can also add a lot of character to each individual mirror.

According to Porambo, there are some important things to keep in mind when using framed mirrors:

* Custom mirrors should suit the room. So if a room has a contemporary look the mirror should be chosen accordingly,

* If the mirror is placed to make the room look bigger than it is, select a big mirror to simulate a door way or large window, and don’t forget that,

* Mirrors can bring improved views from around the corner or from another level of a room or architectural feature.

“Ultimately,” says Porambo, “mirrors may amaze you with the way they can transform space… and on a more philosophical note… mirrors can even help keep you on track – who was it who said that ‘Happiness is: looking in a mirror and liking what you see.’”

With more demand for environmentally-friendly products, designers and manufacturers are introducing upscale luxurious and elegant options that prove stylish and ‘green’ can go hand in hand.

According to home improvement expert Leslie Segrete, “With so many great materials and choices available, you’ll be able to decorate stylishly, while making a difference for our planet.” Here are some of her tips on getting started:

Green Foundation

Build an eco-friendly room from the ground up. 100-percent recycled floor tiles made of materials such as rich recycled leather, provide a fashionable and environmentally responsible alternative to chemically-treated rugs and manmade flooring.

Look for carpeting that is made from hemp, linen, wool or cotton, they come in a range of colors made from natural dyes. These biodegradable and chemical-free carpets often even use a rubber backing made from recycled windshield wipers or bicycle tires.

Wise Walls

Sherwin-Williams and other paint companies have recently introduced water-based paints to combat the environmental hazards often caused by chemical-laden paints. Alternative home wall coverings can also be made from earth-friendly materials, like hemp, linen, bamboo, cork and recycled paper.

“For an adventurous, unique look that combines color and texture, try American Clay Plaster,” Segrete said. “Create an array of colors with different tints and finishes that appear smooth, rustic or even Old World.”

Faucet Flow

New automatic hands-free faucets, like the Destiny bathroom faucet from ShowHouse by Moen, conserve water with a sleek minimalist design and a distinctly-styled spout that produces a sheeting water flow. The Destiny faucet reduces water waste, providing water only when it is needed.

Window to Tomorrow

Large, high-efficiency windows let more daylight into the home and decrease the need for electrical lighting. To further this green option, forgo window treatments altogether and install frosted glass panes. Additionally, supplement natural lighting by replacing energy-wasting incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient fluorescent lighting fixtures.

As ‘going green’ continues to gain momentum, it’s easier than ever before to make a style statement in your home while still having a conscience.

About Moen

Moen offers a diverse selection of thoughtfully designed, on-trend kitchen faucets, bathroom faucets, showerheads, and stainless steel sinks for residential and commercial applications. As the #1 faucet brand in North America, customers have come to rely on Moen to deliver dependable products and service. Moen is part of Fortune Brands, Inc. (NYSE: FO, www.fortunebrands.com), a leading consumer brands company.Going Grecsfff

Along with the many products produced by Mrs. Meyer’s, a cleaning guide is now available. Simple and easy tips for keeping our homes fresh and clean.

People are always asking, “Is Mrs. Meyer a real person?” Well she actually is and we want to confirm it once and for all! Mrs. Thelma Meyer is much more than the name behind Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day products. She is a mother of nine who kept house in a small town in Iowa. Though retired now, she has tended to her own home for more than 50 years and is the inspiration behind the brand Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day. Mrs. Meyer’s daughter started the line to honor her mother’s old-fashioned values and make honest cleaners that smell good and work like the dickens on dirt. And now for the first time ever her timeless tricks of the trade are available in MRS. MEYER’S CLEAN HOME, a revolutionary new cleaning guide chock full of practical tips and secrets to domestic success.

With an abundance of children, pets, and work to be done around the house, it’s no wonder that Mrs. Meyer picked up some handy tricks over the years and discovered ways to make the day-to-day work easier and a joy. Though Mrs. Meyer admits to not being a meticulous housekeeper, she knows a little something about cleaning and wants to share her advice with anyone who will grab a duster and listen. With shortcuts and tips for cleaning the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room (including nooks and crannies), as well as timesaving tips on what to tackle during the week so you’ll have your weekend free, MRS. MEYER’S CLEAN HOME will become a household fixture with advice such as:

Never use vinegar and water on wood floors. One part dish soap and four parts water is the only way to truly get them clean. And remember to buff with a terrycloth towel.
Always clean out the fridge before grocery shopping. Serve the kids “Musko” (“must go”) for dinner, using the items that are fast approaching expiration.
Tackle stains in a flash! When your mascara wand drops on your favorite blouse, mix a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid with two cups cold water, apply it to the stain, and then blot ’til it’s gone.
“A clean house is a happier house,” explains Thelma Meyer. “The faster you can do away with the messes, the more time you have for what really matters — children, relatives, friends and neighbors.”

Fully illustrated and packed with user-friendly lists, charts, and quick tips, MRS. MEYER’S CLEAN HOME reminds us that since life is hectic and messy, keeping your home nice and clean is the only sensible thing to do, and it doesn’t always have to be a chore!

Seeing an opportunity in the marketplace for reinventing the tired, toxic household cleaning market, Monica Nassif created Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day to honor her mother and the hard-working values she taught her children. Launched in 2001, Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day is a collection of 16 hard-working home cleaners and five laundry products that embody simplicity, efficiency and the refreshing power of herbs and garden flowers. The line stays true to a bygone era of proud, no-nonsense clean with products that work quickly, simply and effectively. Basil, Lavender, Lemon Verbena and Geranium fragrances get up and go in collections that let you clean your entire home, from kitchen to bath, in one good-smelling scent.

MRS. MEYER’S CLEAN HOME is published by the Hachette Book Group and available at retailers nationwide. Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day makes more than one hundred different hardworking products, from baby detergent to dishwashing soap. All of our products are cruelty-free and biodegradable, ensuring a world, which will remain beautiful for our grandchildren and the generations to come. For further information about Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day, please visit www.mrsmeyers.com.

Because of the current economic times, more of us are spending more time at home. The following are tips to help you improve the ambience of your home and to have it be a reflection of you.

Enhance Lifestyle, Boost Seasonal Mood with Smart Updates to Home and Office

Beat the economic-downturn blues with three design tips from leading international designer Lauren Rottet to make spaces inspiring and personal.

The interiors we live in have a powerful impact on our mood and well-being, particularly in winter when we spend more time indoors. Despite today’s challenging economy – and perhaps because of it – improving the ambiance of our homes and offices is a simple way to fight the doldrums and boost morale.

Internationally renowned architect and designer Lauren Rottet, FAIA (www.rottetstudio.com), says simple design elements such as natural light and architectural style can contribute to a place’s positive atmosphere, improving one’s state-of-mind and overall lifestyle. Although Rottet designs prestigious buildings and interiors around the globe, her easy tips can make any work or living space a personal sanctuary – without breaking the bank.

Embrace architectural style

A space’s intrinsic architectural features serve as an interior design roadmap, reflecting regional style, climate, culture and way of life. Rottet encourages letting the building’s structure and design details dominate, creating authentic ambiance.

For Georgian Colonial architecture, for example, accentuate the formal ambiance of prominent fireplace mantles and decorative columns. With Mediterranean architecture, let courtyards and arched doorways and windows brings indoors and outdoors together.

“Style is the inherent personality and natural context for individual decorating expression,” says Rottet. “Highlight the features of your space and embrace its architecture.”

Enhance natural light and view

Sunlight and outdoor views are vital for successful interiors – and practically free.

“Natural light makes any personal space feel warm and comfortable,” says Rottet. “And by making outdoor views part of the interior composition, we instantly add dimension to a room.”

Whether windows are large or small, with southern or northern exposure, light and views can be dramatically altered through shading, drapes and other window treatments.

Feature art and self-expression

Interiors are an opportunity to express personal style.

This can be as simple as deliberate placement of personally selected objects – paintings, lamps or memorabilia – transforming the space into something unmistakably one’s own.

“This is the most important design message,” says Rottet. “When a space feels personal, it generates positive feelings for those within – which means a lot in these trying times.

SCHUMACHER TERRA, THE NEW BRAND FOR EARTH-FRIENDLY DECORATING, DEBUTS WITH THE BY NATURE COLLECTION
New Schumacher collection to support WaterAid America—An Industry First

In its on-going effort to bring environmentally responsible products to the design community, Schumacher is launching its Schumacher Terra™ brand of eco-friendly fabrics and wallcoverings. The products featured under the Schumacher Terra label include natural and renewable materials — linen, jute, bamboo and certified organic cotton — and meet authentic third-party certification, such as USDA certification and Oekotex standard 100, for environmentally and socially responsible processes, from field to finished product.

Headlining the new Schumacher Terra brand is the By Nature Collection of luxurious organic cotton fabrics. Perceivably softer than standard cotton, these chemical-free fabrics come by their rich, sumptuous hand naturally; the fibers have not been broken down by chemical washes and finishes and the water discharged at the completion of the process contains no pollutants. Learn more about By Nature and download the brochure.

The organic cottons in the By Nature Collection have relaxed, washed-finish hues inspired by the natural palette of earth, sea and sky. Stronger than traditional cottons, many of the organic cotton offerings in this collection are washable, and come in a range of solids, stripes, wovens, and classic and modern prints. The By Nature Collection of organic cotton is grown without materials harmful to humans, animals or the soil and is processed under the Global Organic Textile Standard and other certifying agencies to assure purity with environmental and social responsibility.

“In the past, designers and consumers have perceived sustainable fabrics as muted and monochromatic and plain,” according to Susan North, Schumacher’s Vice President of Design. “In conceiving the By Nature collection, we wanted to break the mold by offering an unexpectedly vibrant color palette, bold patterns and ultra-soft hand not generally found in eco-friendly textiles.”

To celebrate the launch of its first collection under the Schumacher Terra label, and as part of its ongoing commitment to a healthier planet, Schumacher is proud to announce that it has allied with WaterAid America, the world’s leading non-profit organization dedicated exclusively to working with people in many of the world’s poorest countries to improve access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. Schumacher will contribute 2% of the proceeds from the sale of its By Nature Collection to WaterAid America.

“The decision to team up with WaterAid America was a natural one,” said Corinne Kevorkian, President and General Manager of Schumacher. “The textile manufacturing process involves heavy consumption of water. At the same time, preserving the quality and availability of safe drinking water concerns all of us, including Schumacher. The By Nature collection contributes to this goal through its environmentally responsible production process. Our program with WaterAid takes our commitment a step further by directly providing access to safe water to communities around the world where the needs are most urgent.” Patricia Dandonoli, President and CEO of WaterAid America, is delighted to welcome Schumacher, an industry leader, as a supporter of WaterAid’s mission. “The business community has an important role to play in ensuring and safeguarding access to safe drinking water. WaterAid is grateful to Schumacher for their tangible support, which is helping us reach thousands of marginalized and vulnerable people with safe water and basic sanitation.”

About Schumacher
The Schumacher brand is known for textile and wallcovering design of the highest quality. Its signature looks encompass a diversity of design and include classic luxurious silks and European derived wovens as well as innovative modern design gathered from sources around the world. Historic interpretations and reproductions, often in collaboration with museums and historic foundations, have also been a central part of the Schumacher heritage and continue in our collections today. The Schumacher brand has been a consistent resource for the essential needs of interior designers, from versatile sheers and solids to opulent textures and velvet plains. www.fschumacher.com

Painting your home is a quick fix and inexpensive way to change the decor of your home, especially in this economy. Benjamin Moore is offering its color trends for 2009 to be simplistic and calming. Soft grays are definitely the way to go.

Color is a telling barometer of the social climate. And, according to the color experts at Benjamin Moore, the predominant colors for 2009 are telling us there’s a craving for simplicity in our lives as we search for refuge from the rough and stormy economy.

“There’s clearly a trend for homes to be simpler, pared down and offering relief from the pressures and anxieties of the outside world, “ said Eileen McComb, Benjamin Moore’s director of communications. “And, of course, paint is the perfect solution for simplifying a decorating makeover. Not only is a new coat of color able to provide quick and uplifting results, it’s one of the most economical ways to refresh and redecorate.”

Another pervasive trend, according to McComb, is the desire to put a personal imprint on one’s space. “People are seeking to put their own style signature on their homes. They value the opportunity to customize and individualize a look.”

What the experts also are observing is an interest to incorporate some unexpected design surprise—a visual treat that adds a feel-good quality to enliven everyday living. “We see this as a symbol of optimism,” she said.

According to McComb, these trends are reflected in a series of paint color palettes proposed by Benjamin Moore that are showcased in Colors for Your Home , a free, helpful booklet now available at Benjamin Moore retailers nationwide. While 18 trend colors are forecasted, Benjamin Moore has its eye on three predicted to prove to be exceedingly popular. Among them is Blue Nose 1678 , a chic blue with a small measure of gray, that’s ideal for making a personal statement and adding your imprimatur to a space. Sea Haze 2137-50 also promises to be a 2009 hit. It’s a gray with a tinge of brown, an organic hue that helps bring nature’s essence into a room. One other color on track to be tops in ’09, and fulfilling the desire to create “unexpected synergies,” is Vellum 207 . It’s best described as a subdued yellow, bordering on the color of wheat. Colors for Your Home also is filled with timely ideas and inspiration plus suggestions for a decorative painting technique or two, with numerous room settings to illustrate.

Color stripes, for instance, are a wonderful way to wake up a sleepy bathroom and make a personal statement that this space is reserved for morning start-ups. The eye-opening combination suggested by the Benjamin Moore team forms a pattern of colored ribbons arranged in varying horizontal widths. The quartet of hues used includes Blue Nose together with Bronze Tone 2166-30, Blushing Red 2079-20, plus a liberal application of a base coat in Muslin OC-12 to keep the exuberance in check.

Another painting technique suggested in Colors for Your Home is “tattooing,” and it’s one that can add a small delight or unexpected visual treat to a space. The artful design featured in the booklet was created using a Benjamin Moore Wall Tattoo , a new generation, high quality stencil that the company recently added to its product lineup. The design team applied it to a single wall that defines the area for a casual dining “nook” adjacent to a modern open kitchen. The “Portico” pattern is a dense ornamentation of classic curlicue quatrefoils that also tricks the eye into reading it as a contemporary graphic grid. Covering every inch, it creates the illusion of ceramic tiles or wallpaper, highly decorative and detailed, but far more affordable. It was achieved with a strong contrast of a deep green/blue Night Train 1567 over a Vellum base coat.

Visit www.benjaminmoore.com to see Colors for Your Home . Each of the suggested 18 hues is animated to provide in-depth information on the color and its application in the corresponding rooms that illustrate them. Additionally, to find out more about the other decorating resources featured in the room photos, just click on the image. The Web site also is the exclusive source for purchasing the new “Portico” Wall Tattoo, $44.99; and, it’s where you’ll find a locator for the Benjamin Moore retailer nearest you plus a full range of Benjamin Moore color selection tools, including Colors for Your Home.
